Library Visitor Policy

The core mission of the Marlboro College Rice-Aron Library is to provide academic support to students, faculty and staff of Marlboro College and its Graduate School. Local alumni, residents of the town of Marlboro, and trustees are eligible for library borrowing privileges. Others not affiliated with the College are welcome to visit the library and use our resources on site during our designated visitors' hours.

I.  Hours of Access

When classes are in session, library staff are available to issue or renew borrowing privileges, reset passwords, troubleshoot account issues, or answer other questions during the following hours:

Monday-Thursday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Sunday 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm

When classes are in session, visitors are welcome to use the building and borrow materials during the following hours:

Monday through Thursday 8:30 am – 9:00 pm
Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Sunday 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Outside of these hours, the library building is reserved for the exclusive use of faculty, students, and staff of Marlboro College and its Graduate School.

During our reduced hours in the summer, winter, and during break periods, visitors are welcome whenever the building is open and staffed. See our hours page for current and complete information.

 

II.  Services and Facilities

Books, periodicals, audiovisual materials: Visitors may use the library materials on site, providing that this use does not conflict with the library's primary responsibility to the Marlboro College community.

Computers: One public workstation, located near the service desk, is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Use of the upstairs computer lab is limited to Marlboro College community members (students, faculty, staff, alumni and trustees) during the academic year.  Visitors may use the lab during semester breaks and summer months and log in as "guest" on the computer stations. Printing is not available to guests.

Meeting rooms: Two classrooms may be used for community meetings when these rooms are available.  Reservations may be made by contacting Sunny Tappan (suntap@marlboro.edu; 802-257-4333).

Online resources: Visitors may use the library's online resources (ebooks, journals, databases, etc.) on site.  License agreements with vendors prevent us from permitting remote access for those not affiliated with Marlboro College.

Photocopier: A coin-operated photocopier is available; the cost is 10 cents per page. Our machine offers single-sided, black-and-white, 8.5" x 11" copies.

Research assistance: Library staff are happy to provide research assistance to visitors, with the understanding that our first responsibility is to supporting the research needs of Marlboro students and faculty. If you are conducting in-depth or archival research, please contact us in advance so that we may better prepare to assist you.

Wireless network: Public wi-fi access is available: look for the network named "Marlboro College" and follow directions to register your device. 

 

III.  Services Not Available

Interlibrary loan borrowing: Interlibrary loan services are not available to visitors. Please contact your local public library to see about the availability of this service.

Printing: Printing is not available to visitors or guests.

Visitors using the Rice-Aron Library facilities and resources agree to waive all legal claims against Marlboro College and its employees that might arise out of their use of the facilities, grounds, equipment, or other amenities at the College. They further agree that they will not bring legal action against Marlboro College for any reason, including any injuries they may sustain or for damage to their property resulting from their use of the facilities, grounds, equipment, or any other amenities at the College.
