Technical Director - Theater

Position Summary:

Marlboro College is seeing a Technical Director which is responsible for all technical aspects of the Whittemore Theatre and Serkin Performing Arts building, and for supporting the Theater and Dance programs through set design and light design while also supporting productions and events. In consultation with area faculty, the technical director offers one course per year (in areas including light design, set design/stagecraft, and stage management) and occasional tutorials in their area of expertise. The position also trains and manages student workers who staff the theater and performing arts buildings. This ideal candidate will work 20 hours per week for 9 months.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

Manage performance spaces and technology, maintaining the sound, lighting, and projection equipment; Oversee the design, set up and striking of performances and other events, including one main production each for Theater and Dance and 3-8 smaller student productions per year; Support students in technical theater through courses and tutorials when possible; and be otherwise responsive to the needs of a diverse and ambitious student population; Collaborate with performance faculty on budget management and capital requests. Draft, monitor, and maintain production budgets and schedules; Train, mentor and supervise student workers in a liberal arts environment, modeling excellent collaboration skills; Support productions as needed, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Position Requirements:

The position requirements include a BA or BFA with emphasis in technical theater at time of application, 2 years of experience within the field of technical theater, Master carpentry and electrician skills and knowledge of set and light design.
